Meme Party

I had a small New Year's party to ring in 2010. The theme of the evening was memes, specifically those of the internet and pop culture varieties. I turned some of the more well know memes of the last decade into vectors and cut them on my new Craft ROBO, which, by the way, is about the awesomest thing ever.

Childhood Projects

When I visited my parents’ for the holidays this year I photographed a bunch of my old projects from middle school and high school. Back then I painted, sculpted and threw pottery. All without a computer too! Shocking!

A & J Pillows

These pillows were xmas presents for two friends of mine. I hand cut the letters through the top layer of fabric using templates I made in Illustrator. The fonts used are those of their respective employers.

iDevice Docks

I made these docks for my iPod and iPhone from the cardboard corner packing of my new macbook. I cut a channel in the bottom for the cord and connector and then painted the whole thing white to match my walls.

My friend Katy and I made a set for several Japanese paper robots we’d assembled. Our motivations for this are too complicated to go into here, but I think the result speaks for itself.

Lego Minifig Cake

I made these cakes with my coworker, Mary, for our boss’s birthday. One is brownie and the other is regular chocolate cake. We mixed our own frosting colors and hand applied them to the various regions of the cakes.

Madonna Clutch

I designed this bag for my friend Amber from a pair of her old jeans. I sewed the top of the jeans to the upper thighs of the legs, and sewed the lags diagonally together along one edge. I also added lining and a zipper to the waist band. The clutch closes by wrapping the “leg” around the body and tucking the end into a slot.

Ball Chain Bag

This bag, the first in my planned “knitting from inappropriate materials” series, is made from a combination of thin ball chain (of the variety found attached to bank pens) and quarter inch wide black elastic.

Audacious

This stuff-animal lizard’s name is Audacious (yes, cheesy, but it goes with the -acious theme of my previous lizard, Bodacious). She's constructed from a layer of knit lace over top of raw muslin. I decided to use wooden balls for eyes as one of Bodacious' plastic ones has gotten gouged.

Painting With Jeff

My friend Jeff and I painted these for his apartment. (Mine’s the feather, his is the bear.) It’s my first effort at painting in about 6 years. I’m not up to my old skills, but it turned out better than I expected for my first time back.
